Tony Della-Porta was commissioned to be part of a team of experts to investigate a SARS infection in a Taiwanese laboratory.

This involved evaluating the physical containment of the laboratories in Taiwan operating at BSL-3 and comparing these against desirable biosafety infrastructure, training, procedures and management.

The final stage was to make recommendations on the legislative requirements for a system of overseeing, monitoring and accreditation of laboratories, particularly focusing on those at the higher biosafety levels.
